Lisa Scott will be a feature next month! Thanks so much!

What a great show. The word of the night seemed to be, diverse.

The evening opened up with a great story from Ken Brezinsky about fracking that reminded me of David Holmes’ Fracking Song.

And the night continued on to talk about religion, mothers, missing fathers, lost loves, and games of scrabble. It was a fun night, we got to see Amanda Rountree transform into a typical Dick’s shopper. I think that’s likely to be my biggest belly laugh of the year.

It was a really full crowd for an early January. We had a stellar points turn out too, super-crazy thanks to the thirty-three who dropped your email on us. If you missed the email sign up, there is a place to do it in the sidebar to the right.

Thank You and Congratulations, Cory O’Brien!

Thanks to everyone who joined us on October 7th. We were overjoyed by your company, and as always, appreciate those who brought and shared their stories. Thanks for your courage and humor and insight. It’s what we come together for.

As we experience successes, like the completion of our Kickstarter campaign, (which remains open until 10pm tonight, with unique rewards like season passes for next year), and like having over 100 of you with us in the room last night, it is important to keep clear sight of the reasons this love and support is coming our way.

It is easy to be dazzled or wowed by appreciation and successes, but our responsibility remains one of holding a space that lets people come to share and listen to truths being told. Popularity will wax and wane, but our priority is to remain true to our mission. Even and especially as the size of our audiences grow and we become more involved in producing events, it is very important to us to continue to offer a monthly space that is affordable, inclusive, warm, and allows for things honest and bold and tender and true, in the midst of life that is not always that way.

Thank you all for coming out. If you are a repeat Here’s the Storian, thank you for playing and sharing. And if you have newly discovered us, we hope you’ll come back! It is super cheesy but true, we are Here for you.

Thanks for being here for us.

And special thanks to Cory O’Brien who has graciously accepted the invite to come back next month and feature with us. You told a great tale, and we are excited to see you on November 4th.

With love and gratitude,
Janna and Dan

Renegade is Going Awesome!

Have you rsvpd?

So we sold a ton of T-shirts, posters, prints, made some great contacts, picked up a free Square card, and racked up 100+ new invites to RAJEN. And most of all, we listened to some fantastic stories.

One of my favorites came from a little girl, who when asked, “Who is your least favorite teacher?”

Responded, “I don’t think I could ever have something like that.”

Her dad said, “She likes school a lot.”

There were a lot of cute looks, faces, and friendly waves. We met KickStarter Backers, old friends, and made new ones. But that moment in particular stuck out.

It was near the end of the night, but I think it’s because Chicago’s Renegade Craft Fair, even after only one day, had taught us so much.

The New Podcast Is up

Here is July’s podcast.

I am a big believer in focusing on the live experience. I want the live show to be the best it can be. All our performers should feel comfortable talking directly to the people in front of them, bring props, go without a mic, dance around, pantomime, or whatever it is they need to create magic in that room that night. We don’t sacrifice the beauty that happens live to help a digital replication.

null

Live, meant for the stage performance doesn’t translate to the screen well, and similarly the podcasts aren’t as much fun as the shows.

One of the things Janna talked about when we were designing the show, was a call to avoid architecture, to allow for the organic growth of the event and the evenings. We believe this was the right move, and that because of this hands off approach there have been truly magical nights, nights were connections were made, nights where themes immerged, nights where it all came together for specific people in a specific room.

We live in fleeting moments.

Still, we are deeply interested in sharing with rouges, vagabonds, those out of state, and the cute girl next door, the one who just can’t bear to leave; we want them all to listen in. We want to allow for everyone to share these experiences with us after the experience itself is over.

Congratulations Lily Be, and thank you for accepting our invitation to tell on Aug 5th

That’s right, Lily Be has been asked and accepted the invitation to come back. We super appreciate it, Lily.

Lily Be’s story was poignant and played in nicely with the themes of the night. Particularly in regard to the prompt, “Tell us about a time you trusted someone and it turned out to be the right thing to do.”

Here’s the Story Invites Darren Stephens Back

It was a record number of points given out this month and a pretty tight race. In the end we have sent out a request to Darren Stephens to come back.

Darren has worked as a voice over artist in the midwest market for years and you can learn more about him and his work at Speak by Design.

Last night was beautiful, I couldn’t get that word out of my head all night. Each story seemed really pretty to me. Well crafted and full of lush images, well imagined and the whole thing had a great feel goodness about it.
