Congratulations Frank Sjodin

Oh what a wonderful show last night. Thanks everyone for coming and thanks to Frank Sjodin, for accepting the invitation to come back next month. We heard stories from all over, some old Appalachian tales, some that happened just the weekend prior, and a story that never really happened.

I admit to being biased but I personally loved them all. For those who couldn’t make it, I suspect the podcast will be up sometime tomorrow for everyone to check out.

Thanks so much for all the fine food, the splendid company, and I’m super excited to see you all again.

Thank You

Thank you all who came to our November show. Sometimes it strikes me what a unique thing we’re all doing by getting together to listen to each other. How uncommon that is now, and how old it is too… how integral storytelling and listening are to the cultures we all came from.

As always, there were wonderful stories on Wednesday. Stories about searching, and about letting everything go in order to have everything, about looking for love and the loss of great love, and learning to be genuinely present in both. Stories about being good to each other. Thank you thank you to all of our tellers.

Lovely Little October Show…

Huge thanks to everyone who was a part of last night’s show! It was a beautiful night full of wonderful stories; one of my favorites we’ve had… for it’s excellent tellers– both featured and walk-up– and for the fascinating themes that emerged. As lots of you know, we don’t dictate themes at Here’s the Story, which leaves the night open for threads to emerge that are more subtle and profound than anything we could have come up with ahead of time.

New Podcast! And Congratulations Stephanie Douglass!

Ahhhh! What a great show!

Thanks to everyone who showed up, told, brought food, ate food, and/or gave me a big old hug! Bernie included!

We will announce the winner by midnight, in the meantime I wanted to at least get the podcast up. (I did my best to fix it. The sound get’s better as the recording goes on. Sorry that it’s a little soft through out your piece, Jet Eveleth.)

People to Thank, and Room for You to Comment!

We will be putting up a sentimental, heartfelt thanks, probably Thursday, (I have a lot to say) but I wanted to get a little memento from the night up today. We will be taking two weeks to come up with a good ending based on the stories we heard/collected/shared. We will post that story on Monday Oct. 3rd as a featured article here. Meanwhile we will be posting scattering thoughts about the night, and work on how best to collect and present the creative work that the runners and robots did to help make the night. We will also be posting the race stats we collected. (As well as continue with the normal Here’s the Story articles.)

In regards to the final outcome of Robot Apocalypse the survivors made varying choices.

Thank You

A heartfelt thanks to everyone who came this past Wednesday and shared at Here’s the Story. The room was an excellent mix – we had lots of visitors from out of town, a big storytelling class hailing from Tennessee, a suspicious number of Chicagoans from Ohio, and all kinds of overlapping themes. We talked about topics ranging from funerals to relationships with fathers to vaginas in a variety of, um, sticky situations. That’s right. I said it. If you were there, you knew what I was talking about.

One of the reasons we don’t give a prompt or dictate themes at our potluck is because this gives people the opportunity to observe the natural themes and coincidences that emerge organically when people trust themselves and tell what they feel most drawn to tell.

Congratulations Christopher Gatsby!

Whether it was because of his long drive in, you’re loving the sounds of piano and guitar, or the charming red faced smile when he slow rolled that second verse to his ballad, you voted him up to the tune of 427 points. Thanks! We’ve sent him the invite and he’s told us, “I can’t wait to make that six and a half hour trip again!” Thanks Chris. And thanks everyone who came out last night to support the show, you were a fantastic audience to ringleader for.

I am wicked tired and so you can expect to see the podcast and a tighter write up go live sometime after Saturday. But I wanted to make sure the announcement was made by today.

Congratulations Jen Burns! Thanks to Everyone who Came, Told, Ate, Listened!

Last night’s show was absolutely fantastic. We are uncommonly blessed and lucky. Thanks to everyone. Congratulations to Jen Burns who, with her strong telling, closed the show and took the night. I hope you’ll come tell with us next month, Sept. 14th.

Janna and I are beside ourselves in appreciation. There were tons of sweet notes written on the sides of score cards. More people turned points in than ever before, and it was clear from the high scores all around that people were listening, appreciating, and truly sharing in the moment. There were funny stories, hard stories, well crafted stories, and connections made.
