July 7th Show!
Happy summer, everybody! We hope you are enjoying the blooming irises, twirling helicopter seeds and puffs of cottonwood fluff snow-globing it through air. We live in such a ridiculously gorgeous city in this season. Even as she sprinkles us with some cool June days, Mama Chicago still loves her children in the summer time.
A good friend of mine began her job on a sailboat this summer, and in between multiple rainbow-sightings and flocks of yellow birds landing on the crew’s shoulders in the middle of Lake Michigan, her days have been filled with magic. Another friend took a train across the country to have the chance to see 2,000 miles pass by, and another got to watch last Thursday’s lightning storm from the Sears Tower. A friend and I found a white lilac tree blooming the other night, and we made wishes for our friends when we picked its flowers. I hope that for whatever joys or sorrows that may approach you this month, the beauty of natural world provides you with a constant source of wonder, comfort and love.
We have some fantastic featured storytellers joining us in July. Amazing writers, performers and yarn-spinners. And as always, we have five open slots for you to fill with your own stories. If you have one you’d like to tell– about anything!– just practice it out loud until it feels good and comfortable, and make sure it comes in at 5-7 minutes. Then come sign up between 7:30 and 8pm at Stage 773 on July 7th. It will help if you bring us a few written sentences about yourself, and your story (nothing longer than 3 or 4 sentences).
We look forward to seeing you in July, and we encourage you to buy tickets online. Our shows have been selling out, and so this is a way to make sure folks don’t get turned away. There is a free potluck ticket option online as well.

Stoop-Style Stories
When Dan Boyd suggested that I meet him at Stoop-Style Stories, I said, “Sure, I’ll be there!” It was about ten minutes later when my worry started to kick in:
“I don’t know where this place is, how will I get there? What if I’m not cool enough? Or what if it’s super awkward to go up to strangers and ask if they’re Dan Boyd? It’ll be dark. I could get struck by lightning. Or kidnapped by goblins.”
To at least muffle the voice of my worries, I brought a friend. Goblin crisis averted.
Before Stoop-Style Stories, I had never been to a storytelling show, so I had no idea what to expect when I waltzed into Rosa’s Lounge. What I did find, as the evening progressed, is something that regular storytelling audience members will take as a matter of fact: this is a ritual.

April 7th Features
Guys! We are proud to present another entirely fancy collection of people coming to tell you stories on April 7th. These magnificent folks, plus the opportunity for unknown goodness offered by our five open walk-up slots, are likely to equal yet another wonderful night.
If YOU feel you might have a story pulling on your sleeve to tell it, we say give it a voice! Just practice a little, make sure it rounds out in about 6-7 minutes, take a deep breath and jump. It can seem a little scary to go solo, but people almost always report that it is fun and exciting and transformative in ways they never expected. So if you’ve got something good to give, come give it away.

New Year, New Stories!
Hi friends! Hope that everyone’s surviving the hustle of the holiday time, and that each of us gets some rest and rejuvenation somewhere in its midst. I’m in Arizona, where the rocks are rainbows, and anemone-colored cactuses and rusty treasures spill across people’s front yards like shipwrecks. It is surreal and beautiful, and even this far away, I am filled with love for Chicago, and for the wonderful people there. Wherever you are, Chicago or farther afield, I hope you feel loved and included like I do in the community we all are making.
Even with all the work-hecticness and travel and events and endings and beginnings of December and January, I am looking forward to the next show! In case you’re looking forward to it too, here is a glimpse of the people we’ll be featuring at our show on January 6th. They are beautiful humans, each. And great artists as well.

Here’s the Story Goes to Renegade Craft Fair
As I was making the new T-shirts at Spudnik Press, this pretty girl she asks, “Are you making those for Renegade?”
“No.”
But it struck me that Renegade Craft Fair was a place I should probably go.
Renegades love stories! Crafters are all about tales. So I went out on Saturday and Sunday and slung some postcards. I tried to be judicious about it. I put on my best Derren Brown cold reader face. And besides two doldrumy snarks, I felt like a crack dealer.

If you missed the last Journey to the End of the Night, run by our good friends over at CGø, this will be the most fun you’ll have all summer!
Here’s The Story invites the people of Chicago to participate in what will be a race, a game of tag, a scavenger hunt, and an incredibly chase through the city streets at night with your friends! This game rewards both the fit, the stealthy, the cunning and those who are smart enough to work the public transit system. Journey is happening again before it gets to cold to play outside! It is a free street game of cinematic proportions run by awesome volunteers in cities around the world. Make new friends, bring old ones, and find new ways to adventure in our city! It will be super fun, and the more people that play, the merrier! This is a purely community based event!

This time we’ve wrapped the game in story. You are all playing humans in an alternate Chicago. This alternate Chicago has been overrun by robots. Robots set on turning every last human into one of them. You will gather at Harrison Park (18th stop on the Pink Line) and there you will be given a map to freedom. Think of it as an underground railroad. You will have to make it to five safe zones before being allowed to escape the robots for good. Read more of the unfolding story at the disorder of the wild onion.
Basic Rules
You will meet at a crowded Harrison Park. There you will receive a map and two ribbons. One will be red. One will be blue.
The blue one will be placed on your arm. The red one will go in your pocket.
At 7:00pm you will follow the map across the city trying to make it to the secret checkpoints as quickly as you can. All the while you’ll be chased by robots wearing red ribbons.
If you get caught, you will hand over your blue ribbon as a prize to the chaser. You will take the red ribbon out of your pocket and place it around your arm. You are now a robot. The object of the game is to get to checkpoints without getting tagged or to catch as many runners as you can.
Advanced Rules
1. Chasers (Robots) may only catch one person at a time.
2. You must take the blue ribbon before you tag another runner.
3. Checkpoints are safe zones. No one can be tagged in a safe zone.
4. Safe zones will be noted on the map you receive in the beginning.
5. Public transportation is always a safe zone. The only thing that counts as public transit are buses and trains.
6. If there is an argument about who got caught, you settle it like adults in the dark of night between each other remembering the game is meant to be fun.
7. Everyone who makes it to the finish line is a winner and will receive a prize.
8. The runner who reaches the finish line first wins a trophy.
9. The chaser who captures the most runners wins a trophy.
