Holiday Show and Year End Prize!

Hello beautiful Here’sthestorians! We are proud and pleased to announce our very first year-end holiday show! Dan and I have put a lot of work into dreaming this up for you, and think it’s going to be a really special night.

This show’s format will be different from usual, as we’ll be featuring 100% Audience Favorite tellers from the course of the year. There will be no walk-up slots; just your favorite Chicago tellers, gracing you with 8-minutes of their storytelling magic. As always, there will be a potluck dinner (we are hoping grand holiday feast style!) and great friends and community. The event is casual as ever, but if you’d like to get a little fancy, or costume it up, please do!

Thanks and Congratulations go out to Scott Whitehair

Scott will be invited back to feature again! Be sure to check out his other work through out the month, be it, This Much is True, Do Not Submit, Story Lab, or one of the places he’ll be featuring around town.

He’s also doing a special show out in NY next weekend. All of his shows as well as other awesome Chicago live lit shows can be found on our calendar. (This calendar was originally set up by Aria Alexander Manifold and is maintained by a number of people.)

So thanks to everyone who dropped points on all the tellers who told this year. In Nov. we had more sheets turned in than ever before and we hope a lot of you get to make it back for our big holiday show coming up.

November 4th Features Feature!

Hello friends! We are proud and pleased to bring you YET another incredible (and yet completely credible) line-up of featured storytellers. There is something very joyful about having the job of going out into the world and recognizing wonderful people who we want to… share with more wonderful people. It is exciting to introduce you to each other, and to watch friendships and creative relationships grow as a result.

This month, we have some beautiful humans joining us to share their thinking, their experiences and their stories. Some of the best people we know, they all also happen to be excellent artists and powerful performers. Here they are, in all their digital informational glory…

Thank You and Congratulations, Cory O’Brien!

Thanks to everyone who joined us on October 7th. We were overjoyed by your company, and as always, appreciate those who brought and shared their stories. Thanks for your courage and humor and insight. It’s what we come together for.

As we experience successes, like the completion of our Kickstarter campaign, (which remains open until 10pm tonight, with unique rewards like season passes for next year), and like having over 100 of you with us in the room last night, it is important to keep clear sight of the reasons this love and support is coming our way.

It is easy to be dazzled or wowed by appreciation and successes, but our responsibility remains one of holding a space that lets people come to share and listen to truths being told. Popularity will wax and wane, but our priority is to remain true to our mission. Even and especially as the size of our audiences grow and we become more involved in producing events, it is very important to us to continue to offer a monthly space that is affordable, inclusive, warm, and allows for things honest and bold and tender and true, in the midst of life that is not always that way.

Thank you all for coming out. If you are a repeat Here’s the Storian, thank you for playing and sharing. And if you have newly discovered us, we hope you’ll come back! It is super cheesy but true, we are Here for you.

Thanks for being here for us.

And special thanks to Cory O’Brien who has graciously accepted the invite to come back next month and feature with us. You told a great tale, and we are excited to see you on November 4th.

With love and gratitude,
Janna and Dan

This month, we bring you five people who elegantly embody all these, and we can’t wait for you to meet them. Keep on coming to Here’s the Story, and keep on watching us prove that the funniest, wisest and most fascinating folks are just like you in lots of ways. Here’s the Story, Dec 2nd show. An End of Year Prize.

One of the coolest things we have added to this year’s season, and something we will be expanding upon in 2013, is our year-end show on December 2nd. This very special evening will feature a full line-up of your audience favorite walk-up tellers from 2012, and will also be an award ceremony!

On this night, Here’s the Story’s Year-End Prize will be given to the walk-up teller who has been given the most points by our audience over the course of the year. The prize is to have Here’s the Story advertise and produce a one-night performance of your own 45-60 minute solo-show.

We will give you script feedback and direction, and both promote and pay for one night of your solo show at Stage 773. You will have the benefit of community awareness generated through the Here’s the Story friends, family, colleagues, fans and the personal support of an experienced director and producer.

As storytelling is a reciprocal art… giving and giving back endlessly, our Year End Prize is an honor given to the person who garnered the most points from the audience over the entire year. We want to thank you for moving them, the audience, and we want to celebrate your stories.

Here’s the Story at Renegade Craft Fair!

At Here’s the Story, we are always looking for new ways and new places to share stories. And so Sept. 8th and 9th you will find us at the Chicago Renegade Craft Fair. We will have artwork available from various artists. Artists like, Amy Kuttab, Kenton Quatman, Brandon Knowlden, Caitlyn Eakins, Jennifer Parks, Rachel Howard, and Aria Alexander-Manifold! Just to name a few.

Yeah, last year we had an amazing ChicagoRCF experience, and this year, we said, “We owe them a booth for such an adventure.” Also, we are total crafty crafters, not to mention we know that slew of artists listed above.

September 2nd Feature List

7:30 Potluck
8:00 Stories
$5.00

This show is one I’m crazy excited about. Both Frank Bergh and AK Nacer are people I’ve been trying to get pinned down for some time. These two guys are voices I don’t get to hear often, and they’re bringing stories that aren’t already in the community. Thanks everyone for doing this!

Congratulations to Ron and Xavier, we cordially invite you back to feature Sept 2nd

First off, special thanks to Monte for getting us these awesome photos, right after the show!

Second! Wow, 46 people filled out cards and we ended up with a tie. Both Ron and Xavier scored the exact same number of points. That’s crazy! They also scored the exact same number of 15s!

When counting up all the points I found it a little ironic that Ron got the most points from the three people in the audience who refused to be constrained by our tyrannical rules. Only 50 points! Pfft, how about I try and give away 61! Or, only 15 to one person? I’m going to drop 35 on on one person! What are they going to do? Normalize the scores, just like they said at the beginning of the show?

It’s great because that’s totally the sort of stunt I would pull, not out of malice to rules, but because I’m that bad at math.
