McKenzie and I don’t see enough shows together. I’m a blue haired storyteller who writes and produces more than he creates and McKenzie is a cute bespectacled director of finance type. She volunteers-to-get-free-tickets because she …
You see, I’ve spent the last 2 years testing out various Mastermind Groups as well as running my own.
Through the end of this year I’ll be testing out an all new framework for a paid mastermind that’s focused on people who have accomplished a lot in their lives, but still feel like they’re behind the 8-ball compared to their peers. I’ve found what those people are missing: a good group of objective work friends and accountability triggers.
Imagine, Merlin’s Magical Ice Cream Shop!
In this ice cream shop there are an infinite number of flavors available to choose from. How many flavors would you try before giving up? Of course you could just get vanilla, but everyone likes vanilla. That’s safe, right? But I wonder, if it’s so simple that everyone likes it, is it even worth trying?
Connecting with others is important.
You have a memory, a story to be shared, but how do you approach crafting that pocket of time into a shareable experience? How do you reach out to connect with others when your anxiety holds you back? This week I had the chance to try, for the first time, a one on one workshop. It was a great way to begin the process of discovering new ways to see my own story.

I have a back log of post cards to send out to Elizabeth’s Crazy Little Thing and to post here. I’ve also got a back log of post cards she’s sent to me from various shows. And I’m looking forward to getting a bunch of blanks in the mail, hopefully in time to give away at our August 3rd show.
This post card was presented to a fine group of fellows and ladies at last night’s Moth Story Slam. And with kindness and a trepidatious kind of gusto they took it upon themselves to write! This short missive was the collective work of four or five good looking friends who, after writing it gave it back with the instructions, “You absolutely can’t read this in front of us. Wait till you get home. It’s short.”

I am looking out a window full of tree tops and sky, wondering what could be better than having a reason to assemble some of the best people I know every month; to bring them all together in one room, to listen and share and be inspired by eachother’s experiences, thoughts, lives and stories. I’m not sure I know an answer.
With Here’s the Story thriving and growing by leaps and bounds every month, I am happy knowing that this kind of coming together is serving and satisfying the wonderful people who turn up to it from Chicago’s many creative communities. It feels great to offer a place and time for all of you who are doing such good things with your lives to meet other folks who are doing the same, through all different ways and means.

Uncommon Ground, what a name for a place that holds readings and folk singers in its tiny alcove corner heart; it is of course a coffee shop and as such I suppose “uncommon” is being used as a differentiator.
Their grounds are no squelch, popper, or common beans – rather, they serve rarefied coffee. Still, standing outside, my popped tire bicycle racked up, the sign reading “Uncommon Ground” strikes me funny enough to use as a first line here.

To the best of my ability.
There is no escapting cycle.
Ther is no avoiding her.
We are all on our wedding day,
ery time,
bitten by the snake.
We will be rescued,
Almost,
And we will turn
To salt.
Remember this play, remember
The west between the Railroad and
Civilization is a place where the snakes were lost.

Janna Sobel, God, I love the way you write. She was graced with a headlining slot along with Dennis Frymire at Story Club. I am not the only Janna follower. When I arrived, she was already flanked by the luscious Brandie Madrid and her paramour, Matt. Here is the postcard I brought with me.

To those who have been supporting Here’s the Story over the last five months, thank you. Your support for our organization paid off last night in profound stories. That spirit of communication and spectacle was present and everyone at last night’s show was a participator in the back and forth, the give and take of telling and listening.
I didn’t get a chance to say it out loud, but 50 points for 5 storytellers is intentional. A couple people sought fit to give all tens and I appreciate that sentiment. Between the walk up story swappers and the featured tellers it was an incredible onslaught tour de force of A game. The show made me quake. I couldn’t be more grateful.

In my continuing attempt to fill the mailbox of Elizabeth’s Crazy Little Thing I present to you, a postcard!

There is only one rule of fight club and it is thus:
