April 1st was our first Anniversary! We are officially one year old. And a ton of you showed up to celebrate, thank you. It was great to see such a crowd of people checking in on us. I hope we dolled out an ample amount of hugs.

Whether it was because of his long drive in, you’re loving the sounds of piano and guitar, or the charming red faced smile when he slow rolled that second verse to his ballad, you voted him up to the tune of 427 points. Thanks! We’ve sent him the invite and he’s told us, “I can’t wait to make that six and a half hour trip again!” Thanks Chris. The Chicago Poetry Brothel is a place ripe for stories, an event worth telling stories about. Very much the sort of thing that embodies our ethos by proclaiming: “Here’s the story.” Right here, right now, you are in it. The Chicago Poetry Brothel is about experiencing the story. As soon as you enter you are part of something bigger.
It’s held at Al Teatro 1227 West 18th St. in Pilsen. Just a shot away from Halstead where the Gallery Walk is held.
One is encouraged to dress up in Victorian, vintage, or steampunk garb. Upon arrival you’ll be introduced to the Madam and her Doctor. Either are capable of taking care of you… if being taken care of involves the gentle caress of poetry in a darkened room.

Last night’s show was absolutely fantastic. We are uncommonly blessed and lucky. Thanks to everyone. Congratulations to Jen Burns who, with her strong telling, closed the show and took the night. I hope you’ll come tell with us next month, Sept. 14th.
Janna and I are beside ourselves in appreciation. There were tons of sweet notes written on the sides of score cards. More people turned points in than ever before, and it was clear from the high scores all around that people were listening, appreciating, and truly sharing in the moment. There were funny stories, hard stories, well crafted stories, and connections made.

To those who have been supporting Here’s the Story over the last five months, thank you. Your support for our organization paid off last night in profound stories. That spirit of communication and spectacle was present and everyone at last night’s show was a participator in the back and forth, the give and take of telling and listening.
I didn’t get a chance to say it out loud, but 50 points for 5 storytellers is intentional. A couple people sought fit to give all tens and I appreciate that sentiment. Between the walk up story swappers and the featured tellers it was an incredible onslaught tour de force of A game. The show made me quake. I couldn’t be more grateful.

Susan Messing – Messing With a Friend
On the 16th I got the chance to see Messing with a Friend. I brought along with me the lovely Lynda Joy and was fortunate enough to be seated next to three lovely strangers. One from far away, (but Chicago born!) and another, Marissa with a twitter account worth following, (or at least we believe so, come on hit approve! Wohoo, New Friend!) and Brian Elles.
